This is Azaan's official bio currently found in his champion page in-game.


Once the king of a long-forgotten kingdom, the Eternal has existed to see countless reigns end. Forged in the crucible of the Pyre’s flames as the embodiment of all that Persists, Azaan is tasked with maintaining the existence of a Realm kept free from Abyssal influence.

Few still alive have ever had cause to engage with the one of the oldest of the Pyre Lords, but those who have know that his purifying flames care not for friend or foe, only for the complete eradication of the Abyss. Events in the Realm have upset the balance, leading to the Abyss’ influence creeping ever closer, and so the Eternal descends from on high to deliver a final warning to the Realm: deal with the Abyss, or have it be dealt with, by any means deemed necessary — even if that means others may suffer.

One of the oldest and most powerful of the Pyre Lords, Azaan has existed for centuries and seen countless reigns end, even once being king himself of a now long-forgotten kingdom.

Azaan is tasked with keeping the Realm free from Abyssal influence, and after centuries of not stepping foot into the Realm, recent events have upset the balance and allowed the Abyss to begin gaining power in the Realm. Azaan descended into the Realm, easily dispatching the other threat of Yagorath before giving the Realm their final warning: deal with the Abyss, or have it be dealt with, by any means deemed necessary.

Despite warning the Realm to deal with the Abyss themselves, Azaan proceeded to battle Dredge and Raum, though what occurred to the two remains unclear. Following these battles, Azaan began to feel the walls of reality start breaking down, with something even worse than Yagorath preparing to emerge from the other side. Looking back at how the Realm failed to stop Yagorath without him, Azaan determined they were incapable of protecting themselves should the Abyss ever launch a full-scale invasion. Both of these ultimately led Azaan to summon Dawnforge into the Realm, which is now in the process of creating a tear in reality between the Pyre and the Realm. Azaan plans to use the power of Dawnforge to stop this looming threat, but is also prepared to destroy the Realm itself if he must in order to prevent the Abyss from corrupting it.

However, as Dawnforge arrived in the Realm, the fortress was attacked by Nyx, with Azaan being easily defeated and restrained to watch what Nyx planned to do to the Realm.

Summary[]

Azaan is a frontline Champion with remarkable capabilities to control a fight. With his kit being centered around his hard Crowd Control and well-timed ability usage. However, Azaan has somewhat poor range on his primary fire, and defense can be awkward to maintain at times.

Skills[]

Azaan has a passive called Ire, which is charged by dealing or taking damage and grants Azaan damage resistance and modifies his abilities in various ways. He also has a passive "float" that decreases his fall speed slightly and gives him slippery movement.
His primary fire, Judgement, throws a large, slow-moving hammer that comes in a light→light→heavy chain of attack, with the heavy throw having a noticeable Pre-Fire delay and dealing more damage. When above the Ire threshold, hammers gain increased damage and explode in an area.
His Secondary fire is Reckoning, which throws out a projectile that spreads horizontally, lifting up enemies, and interrupting their movement abilities, stopping escapes or evasive movement. When above the Ire threshold, the ability deals more damage and has decreased Cooldown.
Sanctuary is Azaan's Primary ability, placing a semi-circle of 5 walls that block attacks and movement of enemies. The walls have increased health when above the Ire threshold.
His movement ability is Conviction, which allows him to take flight in any direction, and can grab opponents and slam them against walls for a solid amount of damage, while also stunning them. Azaan can increase the damage and stun duration by slamming enemies against his own Sanctuary walls. This ability is used faster when above the Ire threshold and deals more damage.
Azaan's Ultimate Ability, Deliverance, sends him upwards, letting him float and granting him CC immunity and damage resistance. He can then throw down his hammer, dealing damage and knocking enemies backwards, then teleporting down and dealing further damage and knockback.

Talent and Cards[]

Azaan's talents provide him with the following in order:

  • Gain passive Lifesteal on Judgement, with Persistence.
  • In exchange for an increased cooldown on all his abilities, they are granted additional augmentation, with Tempering.
  • In exchange for losing the Ire Threshold damage, his Ire no longer decays, with Eternal.

Most of Azaans cards focus on providing Azaan with healing, cooldown reductions, increasing his durability, and increasing his abilities' potency.

Description

Detailed Description
Throw your hammer in an attack chain of light, light, heavy, dealing 525 damage on light hits and 630 on heavy hits. Hammers deal damage in an area of effect on impact if above the Ire threshold. Has a range of 300 units and an effective range of 110.

Passive - Ire

Taking and dealing damage increases your Ire, reducing the damage you take by up to 12% at 100% Ire. While you are above 85% Ire, you deal 12% increased damage. Using an ability above the Ire threshold of 85% augments that ability and consumes Ire. Ire starts decaying after 3s of not damaging an enemy at a rate of 9% per second.
  • This ability deals Direct Damage.
  • Has damage falloff with a maximum reduction of 59%.
  • The post-fire time between the light projectiles is 1.1s and the heavy projectile is 1.3s.
  • When above the Ire threshold, hammers deal 588 damage in light attacks and 706 damage in heavy attacks, and will explode in a 10-unit radius.
    • Explosions from light attacks deal 168 damage while heavy attacks deal 202.
    • Targets directly hit by the hammer will not take additional damage from the explosions. Explosions will only deal damage to those around its radius.
  • Gains 3% ultimate charge per attack.
  • Even if an ability uses Ire, if it does damage, it will recharge Ire respective to the amount of damage done.
  • Passive:
    • Increased bonus damage also applies to Azaan's abilities as well, including his Ultimate.

  • Will strike in an area of 50x30 units in front of you.
    • The area consists of 2 rectangles, starting with a small rectangle.

Sanctuary

Description

Create a series of Deployable wall segments, each with 2500 Health. Using Sanctuary above the Ire threshold increases the Health of segments.

Create a series of 5 Deployable wall segments in a semi-circle, each with 2500 Health. This ability consumes 20% Ire. Can be refired to destroy currently active walls.

Ire threshold: Increase the Health of each segment by 50%.
  • 5 walls will spawn in a 20 units radius around your placement marker.
    • The open side of the formed semicircle points to Azaan.
  • Has a deployment range of 80.
  • The walls have 2500 health each and can be destroyed.
    • Will have 3750 Health when above Ire threshold.
  • Pushes enemies slightly when deployed underneath them.
  • Anyone can stand on top of the walls and use it as a platform.
  • Damage blocked by the walls will count towards shielding.
  • Won't go into cooldown until the walls go down.
  • Walls stay up for 8 seconds.
  • Walls block your own shots, but they also block friendly and enemies as well.
  • Walls also block physical movement of all players.
  • Walls are immediately destroyed if they would obstruct the payload in any way.
  • Certain wall segments will not spawn if the map's environment is in the way.

Description

Dash forward, carrying an enemy with you. Deals damage and Stuns on hitting any wall. While above the Ire threshold, this ability is used faster.

Dash forward, dealing 150 damage and carrying up to one enemy with you. Slamming an enemy into a wall will deal 350 damage and Stun them for 0.75s. Hitting them into your own Sanctuary walls deals 500 damage and Stuns for 1.5s. Has a range of 45 units. This ability consumes 15% Ire.

Ire threshold: This ability is used faster.
  • This ability deals Area Damage.
  • All three variations of damage can be amplified when above the Ire threshold.
    • Initial contact will deal 168 damage.
    • Normal wall collision will deal 392 damage.
    • Sanctuary wall collision will deal 560 damage.

Rise into the air for up to 6s, becoming immune to Crowd Control and reducing the damage you take by 50%. Fire at the ground to throw your hammer, dealing 725 damage and applying Knockback on hit. Shortly after your hammer lands, teleport to it, dealing 250 additional damage and applying a large Knockback in an area.

Lore

  • Despite arriving to save the Realm and possessing an angelic appearance, Azaan isn't as as righteous as he appears.[3][4][5] However, this doesn't mean him or the Pyre are evil; they are neither good nor evil, but absolute, a type of lawful neutral.[6]
  • The only reason Azaan even appeared in the Realm was because of recent events, most notably the summoning of Raum,causing The Abyss'influence in the Realm to grow. His defeat of Yagorath was largely just because she happened to be destroying the Realm when he showed up.[7][8]
    • Naturally, this is the reason him and the Pyre never appeared in Lost Future, as Corvus was never attacked by Io, leading him to find and unleash the Darkness without ever summoning Raum. With no notable Abyssal threat in the Realm, the Pyre didn't care to appear.[9]
  • Though Azaan easily defeated the present day Yagorath, he'd be unable to defeat the lost future version of her by himself.[10]
  • Azaan and Raum are around the same hierarchy level "in a sense", though who would win in a fight was unclear.[11]
    • Azaan has been stated to be stronger than Nyx and that she only in one specific situation can get the better of Azaan, being via voicelines Nyx stronger than Raum this makes clear that Azaan is stronger than Raum. [12]
  • Being an embodiment doesn't mean they are the thing, but that they carry the spirit and idea of what it is, meaning Azaan carries spirit and idea of all that persits told on his biography. [13]
  • Azaan was born from the Pyre itself.[14]
  • Azaan may or may not be is using a mortal body as a host similarly to Furia[15],though it hasn't been confirmed one way or the other.[16]tough, we know due He Who Persists that Azaan is above Furia as she obeys him and she is not tempered.
    • This is a debate inside community because old bot commands on official discord and most people didn't readed well and carefully, he was an old king from a Forgotten-Kingdom. [17]
  • Azaan has existed for an incredibly long time, being one of the oldest of the Pyre entities,[18][19] with it implied he's existed for at least several centuries.[20]
  • Azaan and Nyx were seemingly once in a romantic relationship.[21]
  • Azaan is somewhat like a boss to other Pyre entities such as Furia.[22]
  • Though Azaan has been referred to as "Lord of the Pyre",[23] he's not the ruler of the Pyre, just a Pyre Lord. Nevertheless, he's still an incredibly powerful one, being more powerful than Furia and Magnus, though Magnus isn't canon.[24][25]
  • Similarly to how other Pyre characters represent something, such as Furia representing vengeance or Magnus representing balance (though Magnus is non-canon, of course), Azaan represents eternity.[26]
  • The character that appears on Azaan's Sanctuary walls appears to be the Queen of the Pyre.[27] Regardless, they will be fully revealed eventually.[28]
  • While Azaan may somewhat resemble Atlas, the two have no connection whatsoever.[31]
  • In He Who Persists there are plotholes and doubts that got answered into official Palcord.
    • Azaan could be transformed into a Biscuit because Nyx weakened him enough using him as a battery for the Forge, so Moji is not stronger than any divine being she polymorphed him for few seconds and secondly Azaan strength factors doesn't help in scenarios where the threat doesn't tries to harm him, capturing and shapeshifting can affect him temporarily.     • Even being weakened, Moji who was stated previously to be the most strongest magic user could only affect him for few seconds because of various factors. [33]
      • Moji could only polymorph him, but Azaan kept his immortality and physical traits, so even transformed, he was still divine. [34]
      • There was a mistake that an EvilMojo accepted, Moji magic doesn't erase anything and so on, she didn't erased the "mouth" or any part of Azaan like Chronicles said, they got simply transformed. [35]
  • Like Furia in a general being conversation context speaking about both Azaan and Furia, when the Pyre Creatures has no way to enforce what they embody MAYBE they will cease to exist. [36]
  • Based on a dev statement revealing Viktor to be around 5'9 or 175cm tall and comparing it to model sizes in-game and out of game, it was discovered that Azaan would be around 7'3 or 222cm tall when measuring to the top of his head, while adding his halo brings him up to 7'7 or 234cm, and finally adding his wings brings his height to around 8'2 or 249cm tall.

Concepts

  • Various early concepts[37] show several incredibly different designs for Azaan, from designs featuring much larger wings and weaponry, to wearing a mask and hood, to even being considered as being made into a Dragon, some designs with armor, some without.[38] Though ultimately, these early designs were scrapped due to coming too much out of left field, and also not being animation and hitbox friendly.[39]
    • The dragon concept would soon be revisited with the Dark Drake skin.[40]
  • A concept for a type of skin that "leveled up" over time, progressing from a relatively simple design to a more complex skin was thrown around, with a concept design intended for Azaan being created to demonstrate the idea. While the "level up" aspect was deemed "too costly", this specific skin design could be brought back as a regular skin someday.[41][42]


Other

  • Alternate versions of several of Azaan's cards were used for some of his teasers. This includes Deadly Edict, Depths of Despair, Tools of Salvation, and Ad Eternum, with Azaan himself being removed from the first three, while Furia was removed from the latter.
  • Oddly, every card artwork featuring Azaan's weapon notably uses a different design from the one present in-game. It's assumed this was a near final design that was mistakenly used.
  • According to AOC member Hyu, Azaan's codename was apparently "Pyre Lord".[43]

    • Fixed an issue where Azaan’s ire bar was not displayed for gamepad players.
    • Fixed an issue where Tempering caused Azaan’s Conviction to receive an increased cooldown when above ire threshold.
    • Fixed an issue where Azaan’s abilities did not receive an augmentation if he was just past the ire threshold.
    • Improved timing to the landing of Azaan’s ult and its locking of abilities.
    • Fixed several instances where Azaan had out-of-bounds exploits.
