Corvus ▶️ is a Support Champion in Paladins, added on April 29th, 2020.
Lore[]
This is Corvus' official bio currently found in his champion page in-game.
The most difficult decisions test even the strongest of wills, but his will has never wavered, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. He is Corvus, The Magistrate’s Blade. He is the son of Karne, the powerful leader of the Magistrate, but it is by his own merit that he has earned the absolute loyalty of his men and instilled fear in his enemies.
A charismatic leader and brilliant tactician, Corvus will stop at nothing to see his goals realized: a peace to surpass that of the Golden Age, under the Magistrate’s rule. With the near-limitless energy of the Abyss, bent to his iron will, and those soldiers still loyal to his vision of peace, he is doing what no other is capable of. By his own strength, the Resistance will fall, and peace will be forged for the Realm’s citizens, with or without their cooperation.
This is an unofficial version of Corvus' bio intended to more clearly present all currently known information regarding him. Sources can be found here.
As the son of Grand Magister Karne, Corvus looked up to his father for all the good he's done and hoped he could one day become a legend like his father. So when Karne wanted Corvus to get into diplomacy and become an aristocrat, Corvus rebelled and joined the Outer Tribunal, believing action is what leads the Realm.
Corvus spent his early life in the Tribunal, with the experience shaping him, where he would encounter many supernatural and strange forces; these encounters led him to become the Magistrate's leading expert on the Abyss, gaining his knife and powers after constant exposure to Abyssal phenomenon.
Eventually joining the Magistrate itself, Corvus would attempt to avert a crisis in the village of Seris by offering a girl to the Abyssal portal present in the village. However, this would prove to backfire, as an Abyssal Lord would emerge from the portal, take the girl's body, and destroy the village; Corvus being one of the only survivors thanks to an unknown force. However, many in the Magistrate believed Corvus had gone too far.
At a later point, becoming desperate to end the Crystal War and the slaughter of innocents that accompanied it, Corvus would lead a group of soldiers through the Shattered Desert in search of the legend of the Shattered Desert, for the power that could turn lush forest to barren desert and give the Magistrate the power it needed to finally defeat the Resistance. However, Corvus would end up coming into conflict within the desert against the Resistance as well as the time-traveler Atlas, at first gaining the upper hand, only to be repelled when Io appeared to protect her people.
Having barely escaped with his life, Corvus became fearful and desperate, believing the Resistance had gained two godlike beings on their side, he feared the Magistrate's time was running out; so many men and women had already died in the war, Corvus was desperate to stop the slaughter, which the Abyss would take advantage of. Using the body of the girl who had been sacrificed at Seris, it appeared before him, offering him a force that would annihilate anything that stood in its way. Corvus would recklessly accept, unleashing the Abyssal Lord Raum into the Realm, who immediately left to cause destruction.
Releasing Raum would significantly damage Corvus' reputation, causing him to be tried for his crimes and exiled from the Magistrate. However, Corvus remains undeterred, and with those still loyal to him, he now attempts to utilize the power of the Abyss, despite his father's wishes, to defeat the Resistance, control the Abyss, and save the Realm.
Despite the prior deception, Corvus would seemingly work with Seris at a later point to combat Yagorath.
Following Yagorath's defeat, Corvus would seemingly set up camp for his group near Serpent Beach, only for it to later come under the attack of VII, resulting in many of Corvus' men dying, with Corvus himself gravely wounded and left for dead. He would be brought in by Lian, with her calling on an old friend, Lillith, to save his life.
In the Lost Future, Corvus was the one responsible for unleashing the Darkness, seemingly being killed in the explosion following his release of the monstrous force.
Summary[]
Corvus functions similarly to Jenos, both being able to give minor buffs to their allies using their healing abilities. Corvus is capable of healing allies that are out of sight using Mark of Fate, although his healing is reduced and he has to have an ally in his line of sight. Placing a Mark of Fate on a frontline is essential as healing a marked ally will not only increase heals given but reduce the cooldown of Abyssal Reconstruction by 1 second, allowing for more healing. Projection allows him to escape tight situations and gives him one of the best mobility options that many supports lack. Corvus lacks offensive potential in his main kit, and should avoid approaching targets that are aware of him, unless running his stun talent, Stunning Visage. To avoid being killed, Corvus should stick near corners, allies, or areas that players can use Projection effectively to escape. His ultimate is good for zoning specific chokepoints and pressuring enemies off a point or payload for a moment. Since Entropic Breach deals percentile damage, it can also be used as a finishing blow against opponents with low health. Entropic Breach is also effective as a zoning ultimate during team-fights, usually to slow down or prevent enemies from retreating. Using Chronos is required to play Corvus as a healer, as the reduced cooldown will greatly aid him in his healing.

Trivia[]
- While not explicitly stated in his bio, as mentioned here, Corvus was kicked out of the Magistrate after he had been tricked into summoning Raum.
- Despite Corvus' failure at the village of Seris not resulting in him being exiled from the Magistrate, the event was still considered a step too far and was ultimately part of the reason he was eventually exiled following Raum's release.[2]
- Vivian was originally going to mock Corvus for being kicked out, but it was later decided to have her join him due to seeing use in Corvus, as revealed here. As also stated there, Vivian probably doesn't like Corvus, while he probably doesn't trust her.
- Corvus is the one responsible for releasing the Darkness in Atlas' timeline, as can be seen here, as well as officially confirmed here.
- Despite it potentially seeming otherwise, as stated here, Corvus wholeheartedly believes in his goal of ensuring the future of the Realm.
- Corvus looks up to his father, Karne, due to all the good and hard work he's done towards making a civil Realm, as stated here.
- As mentioned here, Corvus initially didn't tamper much with the Abyss in respect of his father's ideals, at least until he became desperate enough and listened to Seris.
- Magistrate's Archives is Corvus' personal study, as stated here.
- Corvus obtained his knife by constantly encountering the Abyss and doing research on it, as stated here. Seris had nothing to do with him obtaining his abilities, as stated here and here.
- As mentioned here, Corvus existed and had some power before Seris first showed up as a force in the Realm.
- Corvus worked with the Outer Tribunal in his early life, and originally started working with the supernatural after receiving a medal related to his work regarding it, as stated here.
- Though Corvus wasn't officially a judge like Lex or Androxus, but was instead there for more of a "training stint among the cadets", somewhat like an exchange program.[3]
- Because of this, he didn't really know Lex or Androxus personally, but instead knew them as "high-profile judges" who he at most had a "saw one time across the courtyard" type of interaction.[4]
- It was stated here that Corvus' time with the Tribunal shaped his early life.
- His Exemplar skin may be how he appeared during his time with the Tribunal, as implied here, the skin is of Corvus prior to joining the Magistrate, which would likely be during his time at the Outer Tribunal.
- Corvus' default skin features a modified Outer Tribunal symbol under the cloak on his back, as stated here. This can be seen more clearly here.
- This symbol is important to Corvus.[5]
- Karne originally wanted Corvus to get into diplomacy and become an aristocrat, but Corvus believed action is what leads the Realm, which is what led him to rebel and join the Outer Tribunal in the hopes of becoming a legend like his father.[6]
- When Corvus uses Projection, the indicator showing where he'll teleport to features the same symbol that appears when Talus uses Rune of Travel.
- According to the card Ominous Relic, Corvus obtained his necklace during a crystal raid.
- Scars can be seen on Corvus' body in the cards Battle-Ready and somewhat in Unexpected as a result of Io's attacks against him from her card Protectors.
- Corvus is the first NPC to have been upgraded into a full character. He would later be followed by Betty La Bomba.
- Based on a dev statement revealing Viktor to be around 5'9 or 175cm tall, and comparing it to model sizes in-game and out of game, it was discovered that Corvus would be around 5'6 or 170cm tall.
- Corvus is present in Io's card Protectors and Raum's card Desperation, both prior to Corvus' reveal as a champion.
- Corvus appears alongside Seris and Terminus in Yagorath's card The Great Worm.
- Corvus also appears in VII's card Nasty Surprise.
- Terminus and Vivian are present in the cards Grand Design and Magistrate's Might, with Cassie and Sha Lin being present in the latter card as well.
- Raum is present in the cards New Resolve and Unexpected, as a small broken figure in the latter.
- Seris is also present as a small broken figure in Unexpected as well.
- Karne is present in the card Crushing Expectations as a statue.
- Corvus appears in The Rise of Furia lore cinematic, Atlas, Io, and Raum's teaser trailers, all prior to his reveal as a champion.
- Corvus also appears in VII's teaser trailer.
- He also appears in Lillith's teaser trailer.
- The destroyed village of Seris seems to appear in the card Abyssal Effluxion. Corvus' previous design from the Rise of Furia lore cinematic also appears in this card, albeit with some differences.
- Strix, Tyra, Viktor (modern design), and Vivian all appear in Corvus' teaser trailer.
- Corvus is one of the only default characters to mention Karne by name (▶️), as well as a once more as "Father" (▶️). He shares this trait with Vora and Overlord Khan.
- Corvus appears in the Unstable Power avatar.
- He also appears in the Paladins' 3rd Birthday spray.
- He makes another appearance in the Hallowed Corvus avatar.
- Corvus also appears on various pieces of Paladins merchandise featuring the Heal the World artwork.
- One of Corvus' jokes "I have the power of the Abyss and Magistrate on my side! Aaaaaaaaaah!" (▶️) is a reference to a famous vine where an adolescent menacingly tells a person off-camera that they have "the power of god and anime on his side". The video ends with him screaming.
- The video can be seen here.
- Another of Corvus' jokes "Summon an Abyssal Lord they said, it would be fun, they said." (▶️) is a reference to the "It Will Be Fun, They Said" meme.
- An additional joke of Corvus "Look, it's a nice coat, yes, but what I wear DOESN'T DEFINE ME!" (▶️) may be a reference to how prior to Corvus' name being decided on, the developers had nicknamed him "coat guy", as revealed here.
- Corvus wielding a knife in-game is a reference to his initial appearance in the Rise of Furia lore cinematic, which featured him with a knife, and led to his most popular fan name prior to his official reveal, with said name being "Knaifu the Waifu Stealer" or "Knaifu" for short; with the "Waifu Stealer" portion originating from his "stealing" of Abby in the same cinematic.
- The line "Power overwhelming!" (▶️) may be a reference to a line from StarCraft II.
- The line "I do what I must, because I can." (▶️) may be a reference to a line from the end credits song Still Alive in Portal.
- In an effort to promote Corvus prior to his release, special packages were sent out to various Paladins influencers between March 23rd, 2019, and March 26th, 2019. Each influencer was sent a small box, containing a large number of purple crystals, as well as a few in a jar, alongside a unique letter. Each letter can be read here. The influencers included in this promotion were Jay Flare, Supabounce, Vex30k, and Incinsion.
- Corvus' standard teasers can be seen here:
- (Teaser 1) "I devoted my life to the Magistrate. In return? They cast me out for doing what had to be done."
- (Teaser 2) "From the beginning, the so-called Paladins have been nothing but a nuisance. They strive for conflict and call it peace. If true peace is to be achieved, all of them must be silenced."
- (Teaser 3) "In the shadows of my exile, I cannot help but wonder how many of my compatriots remain trustworthy. After so many battles together, could they truly see me as their enemy?"
- (Teaser 4) "I will lead the few brave enough to see the truth. With the powers under my control, I will bring this conflict to an end."
- (Teaser 5) "If the citizens of the Realm refuse to unite for its protection, I will be there to correct their course. No more proxies. No more lies. Peace must come. No matter the cost."
- As shown here, one of the initial proposals for Corvus suggested him as a Damage champion, and also featured him wielding a railgun.
- Pre-final concepts for Corvus show a few differences from his final design, seemingly possessing a "Shadow Walk" ability, and Entropic Breach instead being a supportive ability that would heal / buff allies, with teammates affected temporarily gaining a pair of Abyssal "horns" while under the ability's affect.
- As mentioned in the FAQ section here, Corvus' abilities originally played off his knife far more heavily.
- Concepts of Corvus' cards show an unused piece of artwork featuring a shirtless Corvus in what appears to be the destroyed village of Seris, struggling to grasp his Abyssal knife.[9]
- There are a number of skin concepts for Corvus that ultimately went unused; these include the Abyssal Prince, Magistrate Royal Guard, Shadow Stalker, Thousand Hands, Dragon Slayer, Plague Doctor, Pyre Redeemer, Lych, Pyre "Echo Champ" Calleb, and Vampire skins.
- The Pyre Redeemer skin ultimately became Pyre-Lord Magnus, and was seemingly also fused with the Pyre "Echo Champ" Caleb skin to a degree.
- The Vampire skin meanwhile would ultimately become the Count and Midnight Royal skins.
- As revealed here, as well as mentioned numerous other times such as here, Corvus was not initially meant to be a recurring character, but instead a generic Magistrate officer.
- Part of the reason Corvus' design changed from his initial appearance had to do with making him more suited to do actions a playable character could do, with an example being how running would be difficult for him in his original appearance, as stated here.
- Prior to his official name being revealed, Corvus had several names among the community, the most notable of which being "Knaifu the Waifu Stealer" or "Knaifu" for short, while the developers referred to him as "Coat Guy". Both of these names are referenced with Corvus' in-game incarnation, as can be seen in the References tab.
- Corvus, Dutchman Makoa, Mernos Jenos, Battlesuit Godslayer Androxus, and Berserker Torvald are all voiced by the same person (Ricco Fajardo).
- While inspecting Corvus' knife, Seris can be heard saying "It's been awhile... friend."
- As Karne's son, Corvus is the fifth champion added to the game who is confirmed to be related to another canon character (The others being Seris & Furia and Lex & Atlas).
- Corvus is the only one to not be related to another playable character.
- Corvus and Jenos's skin Mernos have somewhat related "Curses!" VGS Command, owing to the fact that they are both voiced by Ricco Fajardo.
- Corvus' default skin features his iconic large collar, however, an alternate version of the default splash art exists, showing Corvus without his collar, which can be seen here.
Exemplar
- Exemplar is a person or thing that serves as a typical role model.
- As implied here, this skin shows Corvus prior to him joining the Magistrate, likely during the time he was part of the Outer Tribunal. While it's not explicitly stated it's this skin in particular, with Corvus' only other skins at the time being the "what-if" Abyssal Acolyte and the Echo Skin Magnus, it leaves only the Exemplar skin remaining.
Abyssal Acolyte
- An Acolyte is one who assists and/or follows in religious services and beliefs. In this case, Corvus would be an acolyte for the Abyss.
- As mentioned here, this skin is a "what-if" version of Corvus showing him if he fully embraced the Abyss.
Pyre-Lord Magnus
- Pyre-Lord Magnus is one of the few skins that is considered an "Echo Champion", alongside Remix Pepper, Salt Io, and Ripjaw Buck; an Echo Champion being an alternate reality version of the original champion, as can be heard here.
- As his name would seem to suggest, Magnus is a Pyre Lord, similarly to how Raum is an Abyssal Lord.
- Magnus' design is reminiscent of armored Magistrate soldiers often seen with Corvus, such as in the Rise of Furia lore cinematic, and Corvus' cards Battle-Ready and Shadow Tribunal.
- Part of this skin's outfit appears in VII's teaser trailer.
- The lines talking about "Balance" along with the angelic theme of the skin might be a reference to the archangel Raguel, always referred to as the archangel of justice, fairness and harmony which are related to an overall Balance and also the archangel of vengeance and redemption.
Count / Midnight Royal
- The line "I am one of the most powerful beings in this realm, and they just keep asking me to take my shirt off! Seriously!" (▶️) references how many community members on certain social media sites express their intense desire for Corvus to take his shirt off.
- The teaser for these skins is a reference to the movie The Vampire.
- While difficult to see in-game, the medallion on these skins' hips feature an icon of Day Walker Vivian on the Count skin, while the Midnight Royal skin features an image of a unique vampire Zhin. These Easter Eggs can be seen here.
- The Count skin appears in the That Damned Smile avatar.
- The Count skin also appears in the You Challenged Me?! spray.
- These skins share their theme with Temptress Skye, Devilish Skye, Pumpkin Patch Rei, and Bare Bones Dredge.
Qrow Branwen
- This skin is part of the sixth set of crossover content alongside the rest of the RWBY Crossover Pass and skins, following Grover, Team Fortress 2 Barik, the Gen:LOCK Crossover Pass, Rambo Viktor, and the Monstercat Crossover Pass and skins.
- The line "Another one bites the dust." (▶️) is a reference to the song Another One Bites the Dust by Queen.
- The line "Hello, fellow kids." (▶️) is a reference to the How do you do, fellow kids meme.
- This skin appears in the avatar of the same name.
- This skin shares its theme with Ruby Rose Vora, Blake Belladonna Saati, Weiss Schnee Furia, Yang Xio Long Imani, and Salem Seris.
