Lore

Admiral Judd Roberts ruled the eight oceans as the Realm's most-feared pirate, until one final treasure led to his doom. The admiral stole the Warders' relics from the Resistance, but could not tame the dragons' might. His ship was destroyed, his crew scattered, and he sank to certain death in the oceans' depths.

The Abyss intervened and bore the admiral — now Admiral Dredge — back into the Realm of the living. Now the undead pirate travels the seas again, and no soul, living or dead, will take his treasure from him.

Summary

Dredge is a damage champion, capable of outputting massive area damage from long range and zoning control on the map. With his Cursed Howitzer, Dredge fires grenades that arch before falling. He can easily apply heavy pressure on the point or in flanking lanes using both his left click and right click. Enemies caught within proximity of his grenades will take heavy damage based on their distance from the explosives. Upon reloading his gun, it will shoot out a lobbing projectile that deals huge damage if it manages to direct hit an enemy. His harpoon can be used to slow enemies who get too close or to finish off fleeing enemies who manage to get out of range of his main attack. Dredge may also summon two individual shortcuts, which he can use to teleport between the portals, allowing him to escape deadly threats or simply reposition himself. His ultimate, Kraken, summons the destructive powers of the Abyssal Kraken, creating a large sphere wherever he points, which deals massive damage to any enemy stuck within its area after a brief delay. Dredge can become very vulnerable in close range against flanks if he misses his harpoon or is found without a nearby shortcut to escape through.

Fire an explosive mortar every 0.7s that deals 850 damage in an area. Has a maximum Ammo count of 9, and the explosion is fully effective up to 4 units and hits enemies up to 15 units away. Reloading fires a secondary projectile that deals 850 damage on impact. You deals up to 200 self-damage if caught in your own explosion.

• This ability deals Area Damage.
• Has a reload time of 2.2s.
• Has reduced accuracy while airborne.
• Projectiles always bounce off of floors in the same way no matter the height or angle and explode after 0.7s.
• Projectiles have 50% maximum damage falloff.
• Reload projectile is fired when 80% of the reload is complete.
• Abyssal reload doesn't bounce off of surfaces.
• Generates 4.4% ultimate charge per attack.
• Has a range limit of 500 Units.

Fire a burst of up to 3 depth charges over 0.3s that each deal 950 damage in an area. These charges arm when they hit the ground, slowly rising and exploding after 2s. The explosions are fully effective up to 10 units and hit enemies up to 17 units away. This ability consumes your Ammo to fire.

• This ability deals Area Damage.
• Acts as a weapon attack.
• Has reduced accuracy while airborne.
• There is a 0.15 second delay between each Broadside projectile is fired.
• There is a 1 second lockout after using Broadside before either Cursed Howitzer or Broadside can be used again.
• Broadside has maximum 60% damage falloff.
• Dredge doesn't take any damage when hit by Broadside.
• Generates 5% ultimate charge per projectile for a total of 15% ultimate charge per use.

Description

Detailed Description

Create a Shortcut, up to a maximum of 2. Traveling through a Shortcut will Teleport you to the other one after a 0.4s delay and destroy the one you used to Teleport. Going through a Shortcut will prevent this ability from being used for 10s.

• Walk into a Shortcut to teleport. Teleporting through a Shortcut removes the one at the exit point and incurs a 10 second cooldown on the ability. It's not affected by Chronos.
• You become Ethereal when traveling through a Shortcut.
• You are immune to damage and Crowd Control when traveling through a Shortcut.
• Placing a Shortcut takes 0.8s and the Shortcut activates 0.6s after placing it.
• Teleporting through Shortcut doesn't dismount.
• Teleporting leaves a short-living tracer to the exit point.
• Shortcuts emit sound.
• Teleporting through Shortcut cleanses Polymorph and Midnight.

• Before the Abyss claimed his soul, his human name was Judd Roberts. He was also known as Admiral Dredge, as stated in the Dark Tides lore cinematic, the latter likely being a title.
  • However, according to a loading screen tip, Dredge is also revealed to be the name of the Kraken Abyssal Lord. The tip can be found here. It is unknown if this is a coincidence, retcon, or if the Abyssal Lord named itself after Judd's title, similarly to Abby taking the name of the village of Seris.
• Despite being stated as being within Judd, the kraken is still seemingly present on Dredge's weapon, as well as in Marauder's Port all at the same time. It is unknown if this is an error or some type of ability.
• Makoa obtained his anchor from Dredge's ship, as revealed here.
• As mentioned here, Dredge's harpoon is a phantom harpoon from the Abyss.
• The front of Dredge's weapon is an open Abyssal portal, as mentioned here.
• During a brief period when Dredge was put in charge of the official Paladins Twitter account, it was revealed here that his favorite meal is spam, particularly fried with eggs.
• Dredge has a crew of zombie pirates, as can be seen in his card Sea Dogs.
• Marauders' Port currently serves as Dredge's lair, as revealed here.
• Based on a dev statement revealing Viktor to be around 5'9 or 175cm tall, it was discovered that Dredge would be around 5'7 or 171cm tall.

• Dredge appears in Raum's card Sinister Allies alongside Seris.
• Aurora Furia, Dragonborn Moji, Outlaw Sha Lin, and Imani's dragon all appear in the Dark Tides lore cinematic, which doubled as Dredge's teaer trailer.
• Dredge seems to appear in The Returned avatar.
• The Kraken Dredge appears in the Harbinger avatar.
• Ghost versions of both appear in the What's Kraken spray.

• Dredge's Jolly Jig emote is a recreation of a dance from the song "You are a Pirate" by Lazy Town, as can be seen here.
