Dredge ▶️ is a Damage Champion in Paladins, added on September 27th, 2018.
Lore[ | ]
This is Dredge's official bio currently found in his champion page in-game.
Admiral Judd Roberts ruled the eight oceans as the Realm's most-feared pirate, until one final treasure led to his doom. The admiral stole the Warders' relics from the Resistance, but could not tame the dragons' might. His ship was destroyed, his crew scattered, and he sank to certain death in the oceans' depths.
The Abyss intervened and bore the admiral — now Admiral Dredge — back into the Realm of the living to continue destabilizing everything he touches. Now the undead pirate travels the seas again, and no soul, living or dead, will take his treasure from him. When the Abyss calls, he will be there & he will blast away any foes that stand in their way.
This is an unofficial version of Dredge's bio intended to more clearly present all currently known information regarding him. Sources can be found here.
Judd Roberts, also known as Admiral Dredge, was the most feared pirate of the Eight Oceans, until one treasure ended up being more than he bargained for. Attracted by the power of ancient Warder Relics carried by the Resistance, Judd easily stole the treasure from them with his superior skill on the open waters; however, the Warder dragon found him unworthy of carrying the relics, attacking his ship, to which Judd stood no chance, sending the pirate down to what should have been his watery grave.
But deep in the depths, Judd encountered the Abyssal Lord Dredge, who took control of his body and returned to the land of the living. Admiral Dredge would reclaim the Warder Relics before docking at his hideout of Marauder's Port. He was later defeated by Imani, who came to retrieve what was stolen from her.
Following Yagorath's defeat, Dredge would battle against Azaan, though the outcome of this battle is currently unknown.
This was Dredge's in-game bio prior to the The Damned Frontier update. It's no longer considered canon.

Dredge stole the Warders' relics from the Paladins, but could not tame the dragons' might. His ship was destroyed, his crew scattered, and Dredge sank to certain death in the ocean's depths. The Abyss intervened and bore Dredge back into the Realm of living. Now the undead admiral sails the seas again. And none will take his treasure.
Summary[ | ]
Dredge is a damage champion, capable of outputting massive area damage from long range and zoning control on the map. With his Cursed Howitzer, Dredge fires grenades that arch before falling. He can easily apply heavy pressure on the point or in flanking lanes using both his left click and right click. Enemies caught within proximity of his grenades will take heavy damage based on their distance from the explosives. Upon reloading his gun, it will shoot out a lobbing projectile that deals huge damage if it manages to direct hit an enemy. His harpoon can be used to slow enemies who get too close or to finish off fleeing enemies who manage to get out of range of his main attack. Dredge may also summon two individual shortcuts, which he can use to teleport between the portals, allowing him to escape deadly threats or simply reposition himself. His ultimate, Kraken, summons the destructive powers of the Abyssal Kraken, creating a large sphere wherever he points, which deals massive damage to any enemy stuck within its area after a brief delay. Dredge can become very vulnerable in close range against flanks if he misses his harpoon or is found without a nearby shortcut to escape through.

Trivia[ | ]
Lore
- Before the Abyss claimed his soul, his human name was Judd Roberts, but he was also known as Admiral Dredge, the latter likely being a title.[1]
- However, Dredge was also revealed to be the name of the Kraken Abyssal Lord. It's unknown if this is a coincidence, retcon, or if the Abyssal Lord named itself after Judd's title, similarly to how the Abyssal Dragon took the name of the village of Seris after destroying it.[2]
- While most assume Judd's in control and willingly working with the Abyss, in reality, Dredge the Kraken is the one in control, with Judd having very little, if any presence within Dredge. This naturally makes little sense due to Dredge's strong pirate demeanor and various voice lines implying he's Judd.[3]
- Despite being stated as being within Judd, the kraken is still seemingly present on Dredge's weapon, as well as in Marauder's Port all at the same time. It's unknown if this is an error or some type of ability.
- The reason Judd was attacked by the Warder dragon is because he attempted to use the Warder gauntlets to control it; as a Warder's ability to command dragons is based on the dragon being willing to listen and trust the Warder, qualities Judd lacked what with not being a Warder, the summoned dragon naturally attacked him.[4]
- Bizarrely, despite attacking the Resistance,[5] Dredge fought alongside both the Magistrate and Resistance during the Future's End update.[6][7]
- The front of Dredge's weapon is an open Abyssal portal.[8][9]
- Dredge's Harpoon is a phantom harpoon from the Abyss.[10]
- His Shortcuts are tears in reality.[11]
- Dredge's ultimate harnesses the power of Abyssal Lord Dredge, causing two tentacles to rip through reality.[12]
- Dredge has a crew of zombie pirates.[13]
- Marauders' Port currently serves as Dredge's lair.[14]
- Makoa obtained his anchor from Dredge's ship.[15]
- Despite this, an ancient statue of Makoa depicted in Antediluvian shows him already wielding an anchor, despite the fact Judd would most likely not have even been born yet.
- During a brief period when Dredge was put in charge of the official Paladins Twitter account, he claimed his favorite meal is spam, particularly fried with eggs.[16]
- Based on a dev statement revealing Viktor to be around 5'9 or 175cm tall and comparing it to model sizes in-game and out of game, it was discovered that Dredge would be around 5'8 or 176cm tall.

References
- Dredge's Jolly Jig emote is a recreation of a dance from the song "You are a Pirate" by Lazy Town, as can be seen here.
- The line "Yo-ho, yo-ho! It's a pirate's death for me." (▶️) is a reference to the song Yo-Ho, Yo-Ho! A Pirate's Life For Me! by George Bruns.
- His ultimate voice line "Release the Kraken!" (▶️) may be a reference to the 2010 film Clash of the Titans.
- The line "Dead men tell no tales." (▶️) is a reference to the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Concepts
- Some of Dredge's original concepts originally featured more revealing and sexualized designs, as well as one of them even being a Ska'drin, but they were brutally shot down due to being so revealing and sexualized.[17] However, these concepts more or less ended up evolving into Caspian.
- Later concepts, while moving away from this initial approach, still show some notably different designs from Dredge's final look.[9][18]
Other
- Dredge's codename was "Pirate / Undead Pirate".[19]
- According to lines from Knightmare Fernando, Day Walker Vivian, Death Speaker Ying, and Full Moon Viktor, Dredge is able to summon any of the Abyssal Echoes. However, the canonicity of this ability and Abyssal Echoes as a whole is unclear.
