Betty La Bomba ▶️ is a Damage Champion in Paladins, added on March 23rd, 2022.
Lore[ | ]
This is Betty La Bomba's official bio currently found in her champion page in-game.
She had it all. The brains, the looks, the POWER. None of the other lords dared defy her wishes, and her wish was for EVERYTHING. She designed and commissioned the creation of living weapons: bombs meant to bring her enemies' defenses crumbling down and her foes to their knees. What she didn't expect was for one of her newly-created bombs to develop a mind of its own, such as it was.
Having lost her domain to the rampant explosions of this new "Bomb King", Beatriz "Betty" La Bomba has determined that it is time for her creation to return to his rightful place, under her thumb. Whether that is as her partner in expanding her new rule or as bits of scrap for her new toys has yet to be determined. NOTHING will stand in the way of her gadgets and explosives as The Bomb Queen reestablishes herself as the RIGHTFUL ruler of the Realm.
This is an unofficial version of Betty La Bomba's bio intended to more clearly present all currently known information regarding her. Sources can be found here.
Originally a Border Lord so feared none of other lords dared to defy her wishes, Betty had it all, wealth, looks, intelligence, but it wasn't enough, she wanted everything. So, during a fortress siege long ago, Betty decided the best way to breach her enemies' defenses would be to create walking bombs. She designed the details of this walking bomb, but was unable to actually create it, so she commissioned a warlock to make her design a reality with the use of crystals. However, something went wrong, and the warlock ended up accidentally bringing one of the larger bombs to life, which developed a mind of its own, becoming the delusional Bomb King, who proceeded to singlehandedly destroy Betty's entire army and domain before setting off to visit every land under his rule, which according to him, just so happened to be all of them.
After much time had passed, Betty decided the time had come to reclaim what was hers, returning her Bomb King to his rightful place under her thumb, and restarting her conquest of the Realm.
Summary[ | ]
Betty La Bomba is a damage champion, capable of outputting massive area damage from long range and zoning control on the map. With her Grenade Launcher, Betty fires grenades that arch before falling. She can easily apply heavy pressure on the point or in flanking lanes using both Hail of Bombs and Cluster Grenade. Enemies caught within proximity of her grenades will take heavy damage based on their distance from the explosives. In addition, she is also very agile. With the ability Explosive Personality, she can quickly move over long distances of the map and even damaging and knocking back enemies caught behind and below her. Her ultimate, Long Live The Queen, let her summon and control a large rocket that she can ride into enemies or send flying.

Trivia[ | ]
Lore
- Based on the various newspapers and props in Betty's teaser trailer, coupled with several notable changes Betty made to them, some additional information about her is implied.
- Most of the papers have text lifted directly from certain pages on the wiki, most of these largely related to the Magistrate and Resistance. Some of these lines and phrases are crossed out by Betty, most of which relates to the Magistrate, New Resistance, banning of crystals, and the restoration of peace. Most of these pages and the crossed-out portions are available in the "Other" tab.[2]
- Two of the pictures in these papers have their own edits. In a picture showing the formation of the original Resistance, Betty put a large X over Valera. Meanwhile, in another picture showing Karne passing ownership of the Magistrate to Lian, Betty has circled Karne's scepter. This all likely indicates that Betty hates peace and other powerful organizations and wishes to rule the Realm in an age of chaos.
- Other notable details include a paper with a sketch of a revolver that somewhat resembles the one used by Androxus. Meanwhile, another paper shows a sketch of a portion of the Realm with a line connecting Warder's Watch to an unmarked location on the mainland. This could potentially imply Betty wants to obtain the power of the Warders, possibly inspired by the events of Dragon's Call, where the entire Realm could see the lit Warder Beacon and sense its power.[3]
- While most of the numerous Bomb King pictures throughout Betty's trailer are in perfect condition, there is one that a huge number of cracks and scratches around his face, implying Betty may have punched or scratched it in anger.[4]
- Characters resembling Viktor's modern design, though with different haircuts, also make an appearance in a picture behind Betty and Bomb King.[5] Though what connection, if any, these characters have with Viktor remains unclear.
- While the line was most likely only made as a joke, Betty's kill taunt towards Dredge implies both that Betty has history with him (largely unfriendly it would seem) and that she's aware he's actually the Kraken.[6]
- Betty has heterochromia.[7]
- Betty is the second NPC to be upgraded into a full character, sharing this trait with Corvus.
- Based on a dev statement revealing Viktor to be around 5'9 or 175cm tall and comparing it to model sizes in-game and out of game, it was discovered that Betty would be around 5'2 or 152cm tall.
Cameos
Betty appears in the following content:
- Sprays
Notable Characters that appear in Betty's own content includes:
- Cinematics and Trailers
- Barik, Bomb King, Cassie, Inara, Lian, Makoa, Sha Lin, Ying, Karne, and Valera - Betty's Teaser Trailer*[2]
- Characters resembling Viktor's modern design - Betty's Teaser Trailer
- Crash King 47 and Crash King 48 Bomb King Skins - Betty's Teaser Trailer
- Cards
- Bomb King - A Lost Realm*
- Bombs reminiscent of Bomb King's - Creator's Claim, Bouncing Betty, He Can Run, Queen's Entrance, and Queen's Reign.
References
- The line "Now that's a lot of daño." (▶️) is likely a reference to the That's a Lotta Damage! meme.
- The joke "¿Cuál es la fruta que más se ríe? La naranja. *laugh*" (▶️) is likely a reference to Annoying Orange.
- The kill taunt with Dredge "How many times do I need to teach you this lesson, old squid?!" (▶️) is a reference to a scene from the Spongebob Squarepants episode The Bully.
- The spawn chatter line with Skye "What was it you said about las bombas, chica?" (▶️) references Skye's line "It's not polite to stare at a woman's bombs!" (▶️)
- The line "¡Ay, miércoles!" (▶️) may be a minced oath, as the start of the Spanish word for "Wednesday" (Miércoles) sounds similar to the start of the Spanish word for "Sh*t" (Mierda).
Promotion
- The first tease for Betty came when Paladins artist ThunderBrush shared a WIP of a new Bomb King splash art, which notably featured a statue of Betty in the background.[8]
- Otherwise, Betty's promotion was largely the same as other champions of the time, though Betty did receive several additional teasers.
- Betty's second teaser featured a newspaper with the article titled "Warlord's Kingdom Blown Up!".
- Much of the remaining text on the newspaper is taken directly from various pages on the wiki, with the text "The waters that surround this map are deadly to the touch and have the same kill mechanics as those," being taken from map pages such as the ones for Frog Isle and Warder's Gate.
- The text of the article itself opens with the description of the Magistrate from the Lore page, which is then followed by Corvus' in-game bio.
- The final paragraph of the article uses the description of the New Resistance from the Lore page, which is followed by the first general trivia point from the Resistance page.
- Finally, the text at the top of the paper "As well as a refuge for the lost." is taken from the Trials of the Realm description for Ascension Peak.
- Alongside this second teaser, another teaser was posted to the official Paladins subreddit, featuring what seems to be an early design sketch of Bomb King, with several notes being featured, as well as a red circle highlighting Bomb King's wick, with one of the notes also being underlined in red.
- Betty's third teaser continued with another design sketch, showing Bomb King's rotateable arms, some more notes, and how the gem in his belt is a crystal. Once again, there's an additional red note mentioning Bomb King's head is a weakness.
- The first and final five teasers were largely standard (with said teasers being linked below).
- (Teaser 1) "Rubies are red, Crystals are blue. Run now my King, I'm going to find you."
- (Teaser 4) "¡Oye, Bomb King! You may have destroyed my kingdom. I'm not mad though, maybe just a little..."
- (Teaser 5) "Don't worry though. Once we're back together, you won't get away again."
- (Teaser 6) "Word of my hunt will spread around the Realm. There won't be any places left to hide."
- (Teaser 7) "Don't forget, I know what makes you tick. After all, I did design you."
- (Teaser 8) "It's time I take back what was mine! And show the world how delightfully explosiva I can be."
- Betty's second teaser featured a newspaper with the article titled "Warlord's Kingdom Blown Up!".
Concepts
- Prior to Betty's identity being decided on, one pitch suggested her as a "bumble-bee girl".[9]
- Betty had several early unused designs prior to her final appearance being settled on. Some of the designs are fairly different, featuring Betty with different skin colors, hair colors and length, notably different outfits, and even hugely different design styles overall, with some designs being far more cartoony, while others look more sinister.[10][11]
Other
- Several of Betty's teasers, notably her second teaser, the accompanying Reddit teaser, as well as her third, appear on the walls throughout her teaser trailer.
- Additional newspapers and images that weren't used as teasers can be seen on the walls throughout Betty's teaser trailer as well, some notable examples being a newspaper titled "Winter Newspaper" which features an image of Makoa, as well as a scene from the "A Realm Divided" lore cinematic, as well as another newspaper featuring a different scene from the end of the "A Realm Divided" lore cinematic with a large X over Valera, with the text on the article seeming originating from Karne and Valera's pages on the wiki.
- Throughout the various texts on the many newspapers present in Betty's teasers and trailers, there are many portions of text that are either faded or crossed out, with most of the crossed out text relating to the Magistrate, the New Resistance, the banning of Crystals, and the restoration of peace. Text that has been identified is present below, while all the various papers can be viewed here.[12] Currently, the text on the "Infamous Warlord Rises!" paper and the second portion of the paper featuring an X'ed out Valera have not yet been identified.
- Text below is from the main article from Betty's second teaser and teaser trailer. Text is taken from the Lore page's description of the Magistrate, followed by Corvus' in-game bio, followed by the Lore page's description for the New Resistance, followed by the first general trivia point on the Resistance page.
- Text below is the first portion of a partially seen article from Betty's teaser trailer. Text is taken from Karne and Valera's wiki pages.
- Text below is from the newspaper with the article titled "A Realm Divided". Text is taken from Makoa's in-game bio, as well as Vora's summary on her wiki page.
- An alternate version of the card A Lost Realm which removes Betty was used for her fourth teaser.
- Oddly, Betty's midriff seems to be bare in her teaser trailer, as opposed to her usual design. Though the reason her midriff wasn't left bare was due to the developers believing the color / shape breakup looked better, as opposed to censorship.[13]
- Similarly to her teaser trailer, Betty's primary projectiles in-game have a random picture of Bomb King attached.

- An explosion of the royal variety. Not much to say trivia wise about this one.
- Queen of Diamonds
- This skin is named after Queen of Diamonds cards found in standard decks of playing cards.
