Lore[]
This is Rei's official bio currently found in her champion page in-game.
When Rei left her warren in The Burrows, she pointed her ears towards the pursuit of a mastery of magic beyond any living being's. Her quest led her to the seat of the Ruby Throne, where she found the means to achieve her ambitions.
She became fast allies and faster friends with the Scion of House Aico, Lian, gaining access to the resources of a powerful noble house in exchange for her services and advice. She strives to harness with even greater control and power the chaotic arcane forces that run throughout the Realm and bind it together. A rare magical prodigy, her tale has just begun.
The Scholar of House Aico pursues perfection, and she will throw the book at anyone who gets in her way.
This is an unofficial version of Rei's bio intended to more clearly present all currently known information regarding her. Sources can be found here.
Originating from The Burrows deep in the Enchanted Forest, Rei left her home to pursuit an unrivaled mastery of magic; eventually arriving at the Ruby Throne, becoming fast friends with the Scion of the house, Lian, and gaining access to her resources in exchange for her services and advice.
When the Magistrate called on the royal houses to help defend the Realm from Yagorath, Lian would send Rei to assist in battle, backed up by Khan, the two were tasked with retrieving a special codex from the Aico Library in Crosswind Hold.
After Yagorath had been defeated and leadership of the Magistrate was entrusted to House Aico, Rei naturally remained with the group and was at the forefront of the following parade through Crosswind Hold.
Summary[]
With precise positioning and careful strategy, Rei is capable of keeping her allies alive whilst still racking up tons of damage. Chain Heal allows Rei to heal multiple targets at time and Spirit Link them if needed, due to both ability’s low cooldowns. Envelop can completely negate enemy large damaging Ultimates with damage mitigation, increased movement speed, and increased jump height, allowing you to withstand the damage dealt to you then simply heal it back. Finally, Vivify can entirely save a targeted ally and yourself by granting them invulnerability then healing to them to seventy-five percent of their maximum health pool, just be careful when and who you use Rei’s Ultimate on because certain Champions need it more desperately than others.

||

Trivia[]
- While Rei looks incredibly different to other Leipori, she's a normal member of the species, as mentioned numerous times, only powerful enough to transform her own body.[2]
- Rei is seemingly not limited to only her current human and original leipori form.[3]
- The reason Rei transformed herself is so she can better fit in with House Aico, as mentioned here.
- As mentioned here, though somewhat similar looking, the glowing blue animals Rei can create in certain cards such as Arcane Manipulation, are not the same thing as Luna.
- Rei can use various types of magic outside her abilities present in-game, such as water-based magic, as can be seen in the card Future Generations.
- Though Rei and Moji may possess similar levels of magical power, Rei is far more focused and refined with hers than Moji.[4] Her magic also more or less comes from the same source as Evie, Imani, and Moji's, that being nature.[5]
- Oddly, the moon is not shattered in the card Midnight Stroll. It is unknown if this is an error, or if Rei was somehow present prior to the shattering.
- Based on a dev statement revealing Viktor to be around 5'9 or 175cm tall, and comparing it to model sizes in-game and out of game, it was discovered that Rei would be around 5'5 or 165cm tall without her ears, while adding her ears would bring Rei to around 6'4 or 195cm tall.
- Khan and Yagorath appear in Rei's teaser trailer.
- Yagorath also appears in the card Threat and Subject.
- Khan meanwhile, appears in the cards Aico Forces and Deft Magics.
- Lian appears in the card Aico Forces as well, also appearing in the card Refreshing Break.
- Moji appears in the card Magic in the Blood.
- A unique witch version of Rei that bears some resemblance to her Pumpkin Patch skin appears in the card Midnight Stroll.
- This witch version also appears in the Hallowed Rei avatar.
- Rei appears as part of a design featured on various pieces of Paladins merchandise.
- The line "Magic? I've studied celestial style, wild style, even tricked into summoning a demon to destroy the Magistrate style." (▶️) references Corvus being tricked by Seris into summoning Raum.
- The line "Hippity hoppity House Aico is coming for that property." (▶️) is a reference to the Hippity hoppity meme.
- The line "I commissioned an art piece the other day, I call it "Rei tracing"." (▶️) references ray tracing.
- The line "*laugh* Never bring a gun to a wavy hand fight." (▶️) is likely a reference to the song Don't Bring a Knife to a Gunfight, which has become a popular line in various forms of media.
- Rei's spawn chatter line with Jenos, "You need to apologize right now!" (▶️), may be a reference to Siege of Ascension Peak, and how Jenos refused to join House Aico, then defeated them in battle.
- As with previous champions, in order to promote Rei, Paladins artist Thunderbrush would change his Twitter profile picture prior to Rei's reveal; in this case, changing his profile picture to this image on May 17th, 2021 (later revealed to be a darkened version of Rei's splash art).
- Additionally, similarly to past champions, Rei's promotion would also various influencer packages. From June 14th, 2021 to June 16th, 2021, packages were sent to three Paladins influencers, each package arriving in a box wrapped with a red ribbon, while within each box, was a letter, also wrapped with the same red ribbon, a pair of bunny ears, and confetti in the shape of the number '50'.
- The letter reads as follows:
- The letter reads as follows:
- The letter reads as follows:
- Following this, Paladins UI artist Khamomeal would post this beach-themed piece of artwork, featuring Beach Bunny Rei alongside a beach version of Io and Luna.[8]
- The full version of this image was later posted here following Rei's reveal.
- Rei's standard teasers can be found here.
- (Teaser 1) "Just as Yagorath dwelled in the deep, the Realm still holds its secrets. From The Burrows or the Aico Tundra, my ears have always been listening."
- (Teaser 2) "Magic is the culmination of art and science. Aligned with the proper resources, my magic only grows."
- (Teaser 3) "Muscle can only get you so far in battle. Sorry Khan, but a sharp and cunning mind is needed for victory."
- (Teaser 4) "Through these toughest of times, I will solidify House Aico's place as a leader of this Realm."
- (Teaser 5) "We learn many lessons through our hardships and challenges ahead. But the most important always remains: knowledge is power. So I guess I'm pretty powerful."
- Rei was very briefly considered to be an elemental mage.[9]
- As also mentioned there, Rei was not originally a leipori from the start.
- Her internal name was originally "Mage".
- As mentioned by Paladins artist ThunderBrush, the developers were once approached by an outside party interested in working with them, bringing along at least one known skin concept. A post by GAME PILL on ArtStation reveals them to be this outside party, as well as the skin being intended for Terminus. Looking at other posts by GAME PILL shows other skin concepts that they may have pitched to the developers as well, including a playing card themed skin for Rei.[10]
- Rei and Yagorath are the only champions that don't have a weapon.
- Rei is the first champion since Dredge to only receive 1 recolor skin on launch.
- Rei has a unique weapon inspect if she's connected to another player with Spirit Link.
- If the link is broken while Rei's performing the inspect, she'll transition back into her normal weapon inspect animation.
Harvest
- Come on, you've probably played a game with farming elements; you know what the word means.
Beach Bunny
- This skin appears in the card Rest and Relaxation, making it one of the few skins to appear in card art.
- This also makes it one of the few skins to be canon.
- A beach version of Dragonborn Moji appears in this skin's splash art.
- A beach version of Saati also appears in this skin's splash art, this being prior to Saati's reveal as a champion.
- This skin appears on a mousepad design.
- This skin shares its theme with Sun Kissed Cassie, Copacabana Cassie, Longboard Lex, Sarrada Lex, Shore Patrol Kinessa, Shore Patrol Fernando, Shore Patrol Koga, Shore Patrol Lian, and the Beach Bash variants of the latter four.
Pumpkin Patch
- The teaser for this skin is a reference to the movie I Married a Witch, specifically this version of the movie's artwork.
- Rei appears to be dressed somewhat similarly to this skin in her card Midnight Stroll.
- This skin appears in the Stay a Spell Death Card. It's one of the only skins to be featured on a Death Card, it shares this trait with Solfire Furia, Shore Patrol Fernando, and Remix Pepper.
- This skin shares its theme with Count Corvus, Midnight Royal Corvus, Temptress Skye, Devilish Skye, and Bare Bones Dredge.
Class President / Valedictorian
- The lines "I was supposed to be the best... like no one ever was..." (▶️) and "I'm going to be the absolute finest, like nobody, has ever been." (▶️) reference the iconic opening line of the Pokémon Indigo League anime opening.
- The line "Yes, those are horns, no, it's not just a phase." (▶️) is a reference to the It's not a phase meme.
- The kill taunt towards Dredge "*grunt* Dark... depths..." (▶️) could possibly be a reference to the Dark Depths Event Pass.
- The Class President skin also appears in the Extracurricular Activities, Ra Ra Rei!, and Okay Fine Whatever! sprays.
- These skins share their theme with Academic Skye, Schoolyard Maeve, and Study Hall Maeve.
