Vora is a Flank Champion in Paladins, added on October 28th, 2020.
Lore
A life, once devoted to Io, the Moon Goddess. Her sacred martial order was one tasked with protecting ancient seals, but even they did not know the extent of the chaos beneath. Feeling forsaken by her Goddess, surrounded by unanswered prayers and broken bodies, she has chosen to embrace that chaos. The Realm is on a path of self-destruction, but she will deliver it from that fate. She brings the end... of those wars, of that suffering - an end to everything. Those who know her dread her coming, for she is Vora, Harbinger of the End of the Realm; and they are not prepared.
Summary
Vora is a flank champion who is mobile and deals Damage over Time, which makes her a good Poke Damage dealer at medium ranges. Hitting enemies, Deployables or Shields with your primary fire, Vora build up stacks of Darkness. Using Vora's Obliteration or Dark Siphon abilities will consume these stacks, healing her for a flat amount over a short period of time per stack consumed. Both Obliteration and Dark Siphon also gain an additional effect, if they are used when you have the maximum stacks of Darkness. Her primary fire, Deadly Scythe, deals a small amount of direct damage with the rest of it being dealt as damage over time. Deadly Scythe has a unique attack chain; that being Medium, Light, Light and Heavy strike. Vora's right-click ability, Obliteration, has her slamming downwards and damage enemies in a small area around her, as well as knocking them back. Before landing, Vora is immune to all damage and crowd control, making it the perfect escape or execute ability. With maximum Darkness stacks, Obliteration deals additional damage and slows anyone unlucky enough to be hit. With Dark Siphon, hitting an enemy will apply damage and an additional damage over time effect at ranges longer than your normal attacks. Using this ability with maximum Darkness stacks will Cripple the enemy hit. Her movement ability is Tendril. With Tendril, Vora can propel herself over long distances with the right ability placement. Her talent Relentless Presence gives her an additional Tendril charge, making her even more mobile. Vora's ultimate skill, Harbinger's Wrath, lets Vora become a ruthless hunter, increasing her Movement Speed and reducing the damage she takes during it. After hitting a target, they will be damaged or executed if they are below a certain amount of their maximum Health. During the attack animation of her Ultimate, she is also immune to damage. However, Both Harbinger's Wrath and Obliteration have a few frames in which you are completely vulnerable, since you are still locked in an animation without the damage or Crowd Control immunity.

Trivia
- As revealed here, before becoming an acolyte of Io, Vora was originally a dancer. It was later specified here to be ballet.
- The reason Vora is lacking the mark under her eye in the card A Broken Path is due to the card showing Vora's initiation ritual, as revealed here.
- Though some concept art does feature Vora with this mark.
- Vora's outfit is a priestess dress of Io, as stated here.
- As explained here, Vora is not being controlled by the Darkness. As expanded on here and here Vora is aware of what she's doing, and isn't corrupted or controlled against her will, but simply accepted what Yagorath offered her.
- Concept art for the card A Broken Path initially showed more of Vora's life prior to becoming a warrior.
- A future version of Vora is the one responsible for tearing off Atlas' arm, as revealed here.
- The joke "Apparently Karne's son almost managed to cause armageddon in my stead; now that is funny. *laughs*" (▶️) is a reference to how in Atlas' trailer, Corvus is revealed to be the one responsible for unleashing the Darkness in Atlas' timeline, as can be seen here.
- Though Vora was given new powers by an otherwordly force similar to Furia and Seris, as revealed here, Vora is the actual name of the character and not a title.
- As seen in her trailer, Vora is seemingly capable of transforming her body into a type of Darkness goop.
- As revealed here and here, a future version of Vora is present in Atlas' card No One Escapes, as well as in his splash art. A better look at the latter can be seen here.
- The specific design of Vora shown in the art was later revealed here.
- Io is present in the cards New Purpose and False Idol, as a statue on the latter.
- Vora is the only default character to directly mention both Karne and Valera by name. Karne twice (▶️ ▶️), and Valera once (▶️). She shares these traits with Corvus (mentions Karne), and Overlord Khan (mentions both Karne and Valera).
- Vora appears in Yagorath's splash art, as well as her card Dreadful Compact.
- She also appears in Yagorath's teaser trailer, both in her default and Seal Guardian skin.
- Vora appears in Vatu's teaser trailer as well.
- Vora also appears in Octavia's card Tactical Fire.
- Yagorath appears as an additional voice in Vora's default voice pack, this being prior to Yagorath's reveal.
- Lex and Atlas appear in Vora's teaser trailer.
- Vora appears in the Paladins' 3rd Birthday spray.
- Vora also appears on the Vora Splash mousepad.
- The line "Not with a bang, but a whimper." (▶️) is a reference to the poem The Hollow Men.
- The line "There is no such thing as justice, this is how the world goes." (▶️) may also be a reference to the poem.
- In an effort to promote Vora, Paladins artist Thunderbrush would change his profile picture and banner on Twitter a number of times prior to Vora's reveal. The first change came on July 1st, 2020, where Thunderbrush changed his profile picture to this image, which would later be revealed as an edited version of Vora's default splash art, while Thunderbrush would change his banner to this image at the same time, which would later be revealed to be the background of an alternate unused splash art of Vora's, as seen here.
- Following this, Thunderbrush would share a piece related to the Battle Pass of the time, Radiant Stars, which featured a mysterious figure in the background, later revealed to be Galactic Conqueror Vora.
- On September 18th, 2020, Thunderbrush would again change his profile picture and banner on Twitter. His profile picture would be changed to this image, which Thunderbrush would later reveal to be an alternate unused splash art for Vora's Seal Guardian skin (also revealing Vora's default appearance originally had a similar unused splash art, which was changed due to better wanting to differentiate Vora's pre-corrupted and corrupted forms), while his banner would be changed to this image, which is also the background for the unused splash art of Vora's Seal Guardian skin.
- Another separate effort was also being made to promote Vora prior to her reveal. From September 21st to the 24th of 2020, packages were sent to several notable influencers in the Paladins community. These included metrobirdman on the 21st, I_Dodge_Bulletz on the 22nd, Jay Flare on the 23rd, and finally, KamiGG on the 24th. Each received a satchel, containing a sample of the Darkness, as revealed here, as well as a torn piece of paper, each with a different part of a bigger map on one side, while the other contained a unique written message.
- metrobirdman's package can be seen here. The piece of the map he was sent can be seen here, while the letter he received can be viewed here. This is the only package to be addressed from "the son of a legendary judge."
- The letter reads as follows: "Blow the horn of Arturos. The forest will call upon the alliances of the past."
- Arturos was the name of Cassie's father in the alpha lore of the game. It's not known if this is still the case.
- I_Dodge_Bulletz package can be seen here. The piece of the map he was sent can be seen here, while the letter he received can be viewed here.
- The letter reads as follows: "Rally your army back home before the Magistrate runs out of time."
- Jay Flare's package can be seen here. The piece of the map he was sent can be seen here, while the letter he received can be viewed here.
- The letter reads as follows: "I know you wish to prove your throne. Stoke your mines and look towards our future."
- Vora is one of the few champions to have received an Announcer Pack. She shares this trait with Atlas, Bomb King, Evie, and Fernando.
- As revealed here, Vora was initially more monstrous in appearance, but it was decided to split her monstrous side into a "spin-off" champion in Yagorath, so that Vora could shine more as a character.
- Another reason Vora's design changed was because the Assembly of Champions members at the time found her old design "too scary", according to Paladins artist Thunderbrush.
- However, according to AOC member Hyu, this is inaccurate, and the AOC of the time were all for Vora's monstrous appearance; with the change in design instead being attributed to the developers wishing to make Vora more low profile looking due to Vora being changed from a Damage champion into a Flank.
- According to AOC member Hyu, Vora had different abilities when she was a Damage champion.
- This role swap was later confirmed by a developer as well.[1]
- Also according to AOC member Hyu, this monstrous version of Vora was originally going to be part of dual splash arts alongside Atlas, similarly to other combinations such as Soul Eater Jenos and Demon Slayer Zhin. The specific design of Vora that was intended to appear can be seen here.[2]
- Some of these early designs can be seen here.[3]
- As mentioned here and here, Vora was originally going to transform into a more spider-like appearance when using her ultimate.
- Another reason Vora's design changed was because the Assembly of Champions members at the time found her old design "too scary", according to Paladins artist Thunderbrush.
- As revealed here and here, one of the original concepts for Vora was to feature her attaching to walls like a spider, then becoming invisible and waiting for someone to pass by, at which point she would appear and assassinate them with a pounce. However, this concept was decided to not be a good fit, and would result in Vora potentially accomplishing absolutely nothing if no one were to pass by.
- In two lines Vora states "All good things to those who wait." (▶️ ▶️); these may be a remnant from her original concept.
- This early concept[4] of Vora may be the design created to go with this initial gameplay concept. As also revealed here, Vora was originally going to wield dual scythes. However despite this, the dual scythe-wielding character in Ska'drin and Scorned Ash's splash art isn't Vora, as stated here, and specified here to be Maeve.
- In two lines Vora states "All good things to those who wait." (▶️ ▶️); these may be a remnant from her original concept.
- Another early concept[5] for Vora shows her wielding an extendable sword.
- Prior to her finalized design, Vora initially had pigtails, before it was later changed to a ponytail.
- A clearer version of this pigtail design can be seen here, which also reveals Vora was originally going to receive a fully corrupted skin that would be available for direct purchase.
- Another near-final concept art of Vora also shows her color pallete was going to be more highly saturated, and that her weapon itself was intended to have eyes as well.
- Numerous other early designs also exist, showing many different potentinal designs for her.[6]
- Various ability concepts also exist, showing various unused concepts and abilities, such as Vora's tendril coming directly out of her arm, her various ranged abilities launching actual pieces of the Darkness, an unused ability where she'd attack with a sudden spike attack from the ground, and another unused ability where her tendril hair would burrow underground before bursting back out in a different location to attack enemies. Another concept sketch for the Vora design featured in these concepts can also be seen.
- Further concepts for Vora's weapon show more unused designs.
- As revealed here, Vora was initially meant to release earlier (prior to Corvus), as expanded on here, around the same time as Atlas and Io, but was pushed back due to resource reasons.
- As mentioned here, Vora's Dark Siphon and Obliteration abilities went back and forth on which should be Vora's right click ability. Ultimately, Obliteration won out due to feedback of the ease of access to a close-range emergency damage immunity.
- Vora and Yagorath had their voice packs recorded at the same time, as revealed here.
- Originally, Vora was intended to be more emotionless, but her voice actress added in sassy confidence that the developers enjoyed and decided to keep.[7]
- Vora was originally conceived around the time of Rise of Furia, as mentioned here.
- As revealed here, Vora's sound effects apparently incorporate the usage of chicken salad and macaroni.
- What is believed to be an early unfinished version of Vora's avatar can be seen here. The style is noticeably different from her final avatar and appears to an image of her in-game model.
- Vora's spawn chatter line with Io (▶️) was originally intended to be different, as revealed here, but it had to be changed.
- The card Unified in Purpose features the artwork of Io's card Full Moon as the background.
- For one of Vora's initial teasers, an alternate version of the art for the card What May Come was used, which had Vora removed from the artwork.
- Concept art for some of Vora's cards shows different, unused artwork.
- The icon for the Talent Unyielding Pressure, the icon for Tendril, and the artwork for the card Otherworldly Tether all feature the same artwork of Vora.
- Vora originally only had two long introduction lines (▶️ ▶️), but after complaints that Vora talked too much, three other shorter lines (▶️ ▶️ ▶️) were added to her possible introductions. This change was also applied to her Seal Guardian voice pack as well.
- Originally, Vora had additional kill taunts for two unique champions that were cut and intended to follow Yagorath. These champions were not Octavia and Vatu, but unique characters.[8]
- The lines would've involved Vora further complaining about the Magistrate and Resistance.
- Vora originally had a different unused splash art, as can be seen here, however, it was changed due to better wanting to differentiate Vora's pre-corrupted and corrupted forms.
- The mark under Vora's eye is still present on her golden skin.
- Herald
- A herald is an official messenger or a sign of something about to occur.
- Seal Guardian / Honor Guard
- The Seal Guardian skin appears in the cards A Broken Path and A Change of Faith, making it, Abyssal Lord Drogoz, Remix Pepper, and Beach Bunny Rei the only skins to appear in card art.
- The Seal Guardian skin also has the distinction of appearing in two different cards, as opposed to the other skins' singular appearances.
- These skins are some of the few to have appeared in an official lore video; they share this trait with Aurora Furia, Dragonborn Moji, Outlaw Sha Lin, and Guild Skye.
- The Seal Guardian skin has the distinction of appearing in two lore videos (Vora's teaser trailer and Yagorath's teaser trailer), as opposed to the singular appearances of the previously mentioned skins.
- The Seal Guardian skin is currently one of the only completely canon skins. It shows how Vora appeared prior to becoming corrupted by the Darkness.
- These skins originally had a different splash art, as revealed here, however, it was changed due to wanting to better differentiate Vora's corrupted and noncorrupted forms.
- The Seal Guardian skin appears in the Harbinger of the End and Birthday Party Vora avatars.
- The Seal Guardian skin appears as part of a design featured on various pieces of Paladins merchandise.
- The Seal Guardian skin appears in the cards A Broken Path and A Change of Faith, making it, Abyssal Lord Drogoz, Remix Pepper, and Beach Bunny Rei the only skins to appear in card art.
- Galactic Conqueror
- As revealed here, this skin has unused splash art. As further expanded on in the comments, this art was a backup in case the outsourced version missed the deadline.
- The line "I would've gotten away with it too, except for those Star Sisters and that meddling dragon!" (▶️) is a reference to a line commonly heard in Scooby-Doo.
- The joke "Look, I'm only going to fully explain my master plan in excruciating detail once. And you don't get any subtitles for this one, so, pay attention." (▶️) is a reference to the trope Evil Gloating.
- The joke "My job has barely begun. I've haven't even done anything yet, and I'm not going anywhere." (▶️) is a reference to the trope Greater Scope Villian, which often has the main antagonist do little but send minions to fight the protagonists, seemingly not doing anything else on their own time.
- The joke "If I cut off their limbs, does that count as a "slice-of-life"?" (▶️) is a reference to Slice of Life anime.
- The line "Nothing personal, fool, you just need to be better." (▶️) may be a reference to the meme Nothin' Personal Kid.
- The line "My power level is off the charts!" (▶️) is a reference to Dragon Ball Z.
- The line "See you when you get a bit stronger." (▶️) may be a reference to the trope You Can't Thwart Stage One, where the protagonist will be unable to defeat the antagonist before the end of the story, often due to the villain being far stronger.
- The line "Aaaahahahahahaha, yes! Die, trash!" (▶️) may be a reference to a Baby Yoda meme of the same name.
- This skin shares its theme with Stellar Protector Io, Stellar Sorceress Imani, Stellar Sentinel Inara, Stellar Mender Seris, and Gentleman Jenos.
