This is Willo's official bio currently found in her champion page in-game.


Though short-lived and even-tempered, the faeries of the Summer Court wage an endless war against the encroachment of modern civilization. Willo might only have a few summers to her name, but her aggressive demeanor more than makes up for her lack of experience. She charges into the fray with an eagerness and tenacity that worries the precious few remaining faeries.

At a time when the fae should be regrouping to bolster their dwindling numbers, Willo has taken it upon herself to take arms against anyone who stands to threaten the faeries' way of life.

This is an unofficial version of Willo's bio intended to more clearly present all currently known information regarding her. Sources can be found here.


While most faeries are currently regrouping to bolster their dwindling numbers, Willo has taken it upon herself to take up arms against both the Magistrate and Resistance, much to the worry of the remaining few faeries.

This was Willo's in-game bio prior to the The Damned Frontier update. It's no longer considered canon.

Summary[]

Willo is a damage champion who provides great area denial through consistent area damage and area healing restriction, while also having great vertical mobility. However, she struggles against long-range Hitscan Champions, as well as mobile enemies who can catch up to her.

Skills[]

Willo's Primary fire is her Wand of Overgrowth, which shoots blasts of Fae energy over very long distances, without range-based damage falloff, and explode on impact, dealing damage in an area.
Her Secondary Fire, Dead Zone, fires out a toxic spore that deals minimal damage on impact and infects a large area, preventing enemy healing as long as they're in the affected radius and for a short time after leaving it, forcing anyone to leave and stay out of the area if they need healing.
Willo's Primary Ability is Seedling, where she throws out a seed that explodes from hitting the ground after a short fuse, dealing servicable area damage, and spawning 4 additional seeds, which also explode after a small delay, dealing area damage up to 4 more times.
Her movement ability, Flutter, allows her to quickly fly in any direction she is facing, including vertically, allowing her to change her position rather quickly. In conjunction, she also has the "Pixie Dust" passive, which reduces her fall speed and maintains her momentum, allowing her to move with relative silence or maintain her vertical mobility.
Her Ultimate Ability, Fae Flight, enables Willo to truly fly, become immune to Crowd control, and gain infinite ammo, letting Willo reign from above.

Talents and Cards[]

Willo's talents provide her with the following:

  • Increase the damage of Deadzone dramatically and reduce its cooldown upon a successful hit, with Nightshade.
  • Increase the damage of Wand of Overgrowth after successive shots with Blastflower.
  • Increase the damage and reduce the fuse time of Seedlings, and have them deal significant damage over time to deployed shields, with Scorn.

Most of Willo's cards focus on reducing the cooldown of her abilities, augmenting them, providing healing, as well as regenerating ammo.

  • This ability deals Area Damage.
  • Has a reload time of 1.7s and can be animation canceled after 1.2s.
  • Has damage falloff based on distance from the explosion, with a maximum reduction of 70%.
  • Gains up to 4% ultimate charge per attack per enemy hit.
  • Has a projectile speed of 300.
  • Willo will take a percentage of damage when hit by her own blasts. Minimum damage is 30, maximum is 100.

N.B: The in-game description incorrectly states a range of 20 units, when it's actually 70 units.

Lore

  • Willo originates from the Enchanted Forest.[4]
  • Although Willo is only three years old, she's an adult in faerie years.[5][6][7]
    • By this point though, Willo would logically have turned four at some point during Yagorath's rampage.[8]
  • Based on a dev statement revealing Viktor to be around 5'9 or 175cm tall and comparing it to model sizes in-game and out of game, it was discovered that Willo would be around 3'10 or 115cm tall.

Concepts

  • There are a number of skin concepts for Willo that ultimately went unused; these include various types of skins, such as a maid and vampire skin to name a few.[9]


Other

  • Willo is the only champion so far whose default voice pack was replaced at some point. The original voice lines by Xanthe Huynh were switched out in Open Beta 66 for a new version by Kira Buckland, only for the original voice to be restored in Open Beta 68. The replacement lines can be heard here, and footage can be seen here.
    • The replacement voice pack added the line "I don't like your voice." (▶️) for killing Evie, which references Kira Buckland being Evie's voice actress as well, though the line was removed when the original pack was restored.
  • Willo was made as a plant-based fairy character due to not wanting a generic girl with wings wielding a generic gun.[10]
  • Originally, Willo's cards were created under the assumption faeries were closer to stereotypical smaller sized fairies, before the artists found out Willo was meant to be plant-based and more moderately sized. Some of these concepts were later posted on Twitter.[11][12]
  • While the faerie shown in the card Flora has been noted as bearing resemblance to the 44th US President Barack Obama, the artist of the card claimed this was unintentional and he has no idea why it ended up as it did.[13]
  • In older versions of Paladins, there used to be a number of additional recolors of default champions. For Willo, these recolors included the Lilac skin.
  • Having been present in the mobile game 'Paladins Strike', Willo received unique skins exclusive to Strike. These skins include Bewitching Willo and Moonflower Willo.

    • This is the only skin to change just Willo's wings.
    • This skin is named after the song A Holly Jolly Christmas by Johnny Marks.

    • The Hemlock skin's splash art appears as a spray.
    • The Hemlock skin was intended to be teased with a unique piece of artwork, but this ultimately didn't end up happening.[14]
    • The Firecracker skin was removed from all chests it was in, for it to later appear as a Twitch Prime reward; it shares this trait with Xeno-Buster Ash, Infiltrator Strix, Carnival Ying, and Omega Dredge.
    • The Firecracker skin is one of the only recolors of a non-default skin to not be released at the same time as the original skin.

    • The line "Print: Hello world!" (▶️) references the beginner program "Hello, world!".
    • The line "No bugs here, only features; stunning features, I might add. Ha haha ha." (▶️) references how some program and video game developers will often claim an unintentional bug is actually an intended feature, to the point many individuals joke about a bug that severly breaks a program or game being an intended feature.
    • The Yellow Jacket skin is one of the few recolors of a non-default skin to not be released at the same time as the original skin.
